Well if you missed it, you missed it. Burleson and other commitments limited the players to just 4. All of them got some points and money. (Not as much as Eric did in Burleson, but some). We had 3 Trifecta’s, and everybody placed multiple times. FYI – The HPT had 1st (Eric), 2nd (Big Kim), and 4th (Tom) at the Burleson year-end Championship Game. Wow! We’re just glad we were able to provide you all with lots of Poker Ass-Kicking practice. Sounds like you done us proud. Way to Represent! Tammy provided 4 different pizzas, and we sat down to play a little late. The games went fairly quickly, even with extra chips, but there were some great matches. we resisted the urge to play more than 4 games, and left a touch early.

Game 1 Kirk started off as Captain Jack, winning a number of hands with Jacks. Les ended with a whimper, not a bang, leaving Lena at 3rd, and Vance & Kirk Head-to-Head. It went back and forth, but Vance won.

Game 2 Lena left early, leaving Kirk at 3rd, and Les & Vance Head-to-Head for a really long time, before Vance capped his 2nd win in as many games.

Game 3 Lena got more dealer practice till Les fell at 3rd, leaving Vance & Kirk Head-to-Head, this time with Kirk coming out on top, for the first Exacta of the night. Vance was still up enough money to afford the pizzas, though!

Game 4 saw Les get a Golden Shower early, and again late, dropping Kirk off as dealer, and taking Vance out at 3rd, giving him a Trifecta also, and points in 4 out of 4 games! Then it was an all-Morrisett Head-to-Head as a seriously underchipped Lena fought gamely back from All-In 3 times before falling to Les’ Luck, giving him a Trifecta also!

“I mean, how difficult is it really? Front and center.”

We started a little late, at Vance & Tammy’s, surrounded by good food (like any of us needed it after Thanksgiving) and even gooder people. Tammy provided an excellent Smoked Gouda (amongst other things). It was a night of Bad Beats, and Pocket 10′s lost at least 6 times that I can remember. Not a lot of powerful hands. Very few Full Houses even (maybe 6 all night). 10 players in all – 6 got points. Five placed twice or more!

Game 1 – had extra chips again, and so went long (2 hours). We had 7 players but you wouldn’t know it from the way it started. Vance won the first 5 hands in a row, before finally losing the 6th hand with 2 pair. Eric had one of the great comebacks ever. He had almost no chips. It started when he won 3 times against players with Pocket Pairs who were All-In. Three down, on his way to point and money. Lil’ Kim fell at 3rd, leaving Vance Head to Head until Eric finally claimed another win. He’s been on quite a roll these last 2 months.

Game 2 – saw Nancy & Alex join us (briefly) for a welcome change, and even Kirk showed up to defend his November. He’s been the monthly points leader all month. (Les was there for all 4 games, but no one can figure out why he bothered). 10 players started. When it got down to the last 6 players, 4 went All-In on the same hand! Vance had A/Q. Eric had Pocket 3′s, Lena had Pocket Aces! Kirk was out-gunned with just a K/4. The Flop gave him a King, and the River handed him a 4 to win the hand and K.O. 2 players. And then there were 4. Eric lasted until the final 3 for just 1 hand, but it made him 2 for 2 and was still a half a point! Then a long Head to Head between Lil’ Kim & Kirk with 11 minutes of 500 & 1000 blinds. The lead went back & forth until Lil’ Kim made Kirk settle for 2nd.

Game 3 – Big Kim made a strategic and disciplined fold to guarantee herself 3rd, leaving the ever-present Eric with Lena Head to head. Eric snuck a River Beat on her to put her away for his 2nd win of the night, and his 3rd place in 3 games! Lena is Queen of 3rd place, but now she’s got her sights on 2nd? God help us next year!

Game 4 – we had just 7 players, started after midnight, and 1 of them was Big Kim! Wowsers! Well, she musta knowed somethin’, because when Vance fell at 3rd, she was Head to Head with a Kirk on a streak. That’s usually good for 2nd place. This game was no different. Kirk had an Exacta with 1st & 2nd tonight.

December starts in 1 week, and it’s your last chance to place, or move places. Plenty of room for that with so many close races. With 4 Saturdays (and maybe a Holiday or 2) left, no one between 3rd and 13th has a guarantee. The spots will be fought for. Especially if we do the same thing we did last year where place for the year determines buy-in for the final game.

Poker is as elaborate a waste of human intelligence as you could find outside an advertising agency.

It was a quiet week of poker for the Junkies (believe it or not, Butch). We played at the Petrou’s house. Lots of good food, players, and a late start. We had 10 players and 7 got points. Sounds very democratic, yes? NOT!!! (See Kevin the Bitch). Just kidding. Kevin has been overdue for a long time, and it seems Nevember is when he decided to make us all pay for that!

Game 1 – Kirk & Les fought to see who would be blinded out last for 3rd. Les won. Nancy had ruled the table most of the game, going Head to Head with a very under-chipped Big Kim. Big Kim announced that she had sacrificed her lucky pig to the Poker Gods, and it paid off! She got High Hand with Quad 5′s, on her way to winning the game!

Game 2 – Lil’ Kim got tired of not playing from the 1st game, and went All-In on the 1st hand! Trip Kings! Why not? This game got very slow in the middle, so the blinds were already at 500 & 1000 for 8 minutes before Les settled for 3rd again. Alex & Nancy let their dog Sandy in, who came to the table, begging for attention, and unleashed the Sphincter of Death on us. The smell was overwhelming, to say the least. (Thank God Butch wasn’t there for that!) Kirk braved both this Colo-Rectal distraction & the Golden Shower of Kevin to fall at 2nd, giving Kevin his 2nd win in just 5 games after a 6 month drought! Kirk went outside to smoke a cigarette afterwards, and all 8 of the remaining players bummed cigarettes too, just to cover the smell in our lungs. I say 8 others, because I think we lost someone to the gas.

Game 3 – Lena decided the best way to get into the points was to bust her husband’s Pocket Aces to get a nice chip stack going. The dog returned to completely distract all living things in the house with it’s anal assault. Les finally heaved a chair through a window, and was credited by paramedics with saving the lives of the very young, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems or compromised immune systems. Kevin continued his Golden Shower again, getting Aces &/or Faces on nearly every hand! Vance fell at 3rd, Lena went Head to Head for a short time against an over-chipped Kevin, winning just 1 hand. Kevin won again. It wasn’t very late, and Alex & Nancy begged us to stay for another game, but no one could stomach it.

We started almost on time, and it was great! Even with extra chips in 3 of them, we still got 4 games in, and finished at a “reasonable” hour. We had 8 players to start, but 9 before the night was through. Plenty of food. Tammy made the hot stuff, and Kevin brought his Lucky Pizza’s. 8 of 9 players got points, too! Good Times!

Game 1 – did not waste any time getting it on. On the 2nd hand, Kevin had Quads! Then Alex won High Hand for the night by getting Quad Queens! He also got 3rd place. Kevin followed that by getting Pocket Aces 3 times (on his way to having them 5 or 6 times on the night. {I lost count}). The last time he got them in this game was Head to Head! NICE! He finally beat an under-chipped Les by Flopping a King-high Flush! It was good to be The Kevin! Congratulations on your 1st win since your heart attack! (4.5 months ago) Glad to see you can take it. Now enjoy more of ‘em!

Game 2 – Loads of hands were won by just having the High Card – no one (even with 4 players in) paired, or anything. Most of these by Lil’ Kim. She rode that streak to 3rd place. That left big Kim and Eric Head to Head. Unfortunately for Kim, once it got down to just 3 players, Eric started getting Pocket Pairs a lot! Good Luck against that! She got 2nd, and Eric continues his hottest streak of the year, moving up places before the end. We also received a visit from Lil’ Kim’s husband, Butch – who dropped by to say hello, and have some food. Unfortunately for him, he arrived when without warning, Les & Vance had one of their famous semi-annual “disagreements”. It only lasted 80-90 seconds, but by the time it was over, Butch was cowering in the corner, curled up in the fetal position, calling 9-1-1 on his cell phone. Poor Guy.

Game 3 – 9 players now. In the first 2 hands, Trip Jacks got beat TWICE! Three players got beat, All-In with Pocket Kings! Kevin enjoyed yet another Golden Shower to start the game, but it moved to Vance, at the very end. Kevin did manage 3rd, leaving Vance & Kirk Head to Head. Kirk won.

Game 4 – Yes, finally, we got another Game 4 in! We had just 7 players, and played with the regular amount of chips, and only 15-minute blinds, so Kevin could make curfew. He started the game off by Kicking Eric out in the 1st 10 minutes with Pocket Aces (again). Then he got to leave a little early, as he got Kicked Out before the final 3. Vance got 3rd. Les & Lil’ Kim went Head to Head, with Les having to settle for his 2nd 2nd. That tied Lil’ Kim & Kevin for the high scorers on the night.

Only 6 Saturdays left this year! That being the case, 1st & 2nd looked to be locked up, but if you are 3rd or lower, you will have to fight for your spot in the finish. Who are the fighters?

Another week and I was not there. Here are the results as told to me. We started late, and played only 2 games.

Only 2 games were played. What? Are you people “pacing yourselves”? Anyway, Steve hosted, people came, and crapped out early. Not many points to be had, but here’s who had ‘em:

Game 1 – Steve took advantage of Home Field, and got 3rd. That left Kirk and Eric Head to Head with Eric winning.

Game 2 – Kirk again went 100% by getting 3rd, Alex and Steve were Head to Head. Alex was also 100% on the night, playing only 1 game, and placing 2nd – barely keeping him ahead of Eric. Steve completed taking advantage of Home Field by getting 1st (and 100% on the night, also).

Well, November’s gonna be another 5-Saturday month, so there’s time for lots more to happen before the year ends. It’s just not going to happen to me (sniff). I had to miss this last week, and most of this week. I wasn’t there, so I have nothing to say about what happened, except that I wish I could have been. These are the results as relayed to me.

November’s off to a fast start, with Kirk taking the lead. He became the 1st this year w/over 60 places, 1st over 100 points, 1st over 30 wins. He’s over 40% on the year. No wonder this guy’s 1st! He & Lil’ Kim need to learn how to share. They took almost 80% of the points! No places changed hands, but Lil’ Kim’s tickling Eric’s behind. Both are gaining on Alex. There’s still 4 more Saturdays left, so someone could catch them. Anyone feeling up to it? Somebody please write down who wins, 2nds, 3rds, and how many games are played by each player, so I can do the stats. I hope I get to see you all tonight, late.

Less than half of you played even 10 games of poker this month. Is 10 measly games too much to ask, you namby-pambies?

Having said that, I will have to miss about half the games this month. Somebody needs to step up and take the responsibility of writing down how many games everybody plays, and who came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I think there might be some scoresheets against the east wall of the cabinet where Nancy keeps the cards. Send me an e-mail, and I’ll work it up and post it.

We had a rather small crowd for a Saturday Poker night. The action was anything but small. An incredible night of incredible hands. So many good hands got beat by great ones. Full House counterfeited by a bigger Full House, Full House beat by Quads! and more. The chips got increased again, making each game last over 2 hours, so we only managed to get 3 games in. When that happens, you don’t want to be 1st out, because you’ve got less chances to play and a very long wait – as Vance learned. Also, by the end, the Blinds are always 500 & 1000 or more, so the Blinds end up ruling the play again. Tom was late as he had to rush back from Winstar to gamble with us.

Game 1 – No one got knocked out for the 1st 64 minutes, and the second one not until 75 minutes. Big Kim scores Quad Kings, Ace-high on one of the 1st few hands. Kirk has Trips, goes All-In, Lena calls. Lena gets a Full House, 3′s over Aces – but the threes give Kirk a Full House: 6′s over 3′s! Then one of the biggest hands I’ve ever seen. Lena is All-In with Big Slick. Kirk calls with Pocket Jacks. Amazingly, Eric calls. He’s got Pocket ACES!! (for the 2nd hand in a row, no less!) The Flop comes and Kirk hits a Jack. Then the Turn comes, and the Board pairs Kings, Kirk a Full House! The River comes a King. Kirk’s Full House (Kings over Jacks is now last! Eric counterfeits him with Kings over Aces! But Lena wins the hand with Quad Kings! The second Quad Kings of the game!!! Kirk is Knocked Out at 3rd. Lena was All-In 5 times in a row, started with just 80 chips and blinds of 500 & 1000. She got 2nd, and Eric was unstoppable at 1st.

Game 2 – Tom was the luckiest S.O.B. there tonight. He was All-In with Pocket Kings, Spade and Club. He had 2 callers, and when the River fell there were 4 Hearts on the table! None of the three of them had a single Heart between them, so Tom’s Kings lived, and he Tripled up! Then his luck ended as Kirk K.O.’d him with Quad Jacks! We had seen Quads 3 times in 2 games, and all of them face cards! What are the odds? (Wait, don’t bother to calculate them…yet) With Blinds at 500 & 1000, things quickly finished. Big Kim took 3rd, Kirk lost Head-to-Head against Eric, who got his 2nd win!

Game 3 - In one of the first few hands Vance went All-In with a Full House, because no one saw this coming - Tom called him with Quad 7′s!!!! FOUR Quads in 4 hours!!! We have never before seen 3 Quads in 4 games, let alone 4 in essentially 2 games (from the start of Game 1 to the start of Game 3). Les got 3rd, Tom took his double-chip lead to 2nd, and Kirk copped a Trifecta, placing in all 3 games, sneaking up from 3rd, to 2nd, to 1st.

Even though Vance got shut out this last weekend of October, he still had enough points to get 1st for the month, and become our 1st Threepeater! Happy Birthday to you! Eric’s 2 wins in the last 3 games were enough to slide him 1/2 point ahead of Kirk to steal 2nd for October – his 2nd Monthly 2nd! He is also the only player to move up in the standings this week, and the only one for the month! He edged ahead of Lil Kim at 6th - revenge for her winning May from him by 1/2 point. November starts in a few hours, and we need a new monthly champ. Les & Vance will miss almost half this month. Lots of opportunity for new winners, more points and more first-time Monthly Winners. Les & Vance will be hunting deer. Who’s going hunting for November Poker Champ?

There’s no such thing as bad cards, just bad flops.

We started later than usual, and Vance added 800 chips to the stacks for the 1st game. Even with game 3 having only 15-minute blinds, we only got in 3 games before everyone petered out! We finished just before midnight, so I had to wish Vance an early Happy Birthday. He certainly celebrated in style. He got a Trifecta, and locked October! Tammy’s sandwiches were a hit as usual, and did not survive the night.

Game 1 had 8 players and extra chips and went long. Kevin got Trips at least 3 times, and Karridy got Straights at least 3 times – flopping some! Lil’ Kim got 3rd place, leaving Karridy & Vance Head to Head. Karridy won 4 hands in a row, to come from behind, and beat Vance.

Game 2 got down to the last 4 players and all 4 of them went All-In on the same hand! Kirk had the least chips and Big Slick. Big Kim had Pocket Queens and Steve had Pocket Aces! Vance had the 2nd lowest chips and went in with the worst hand with a 10-J. Kirk got Kicked Out, Vance got 3rd, Big Kim continues her dominance of the Bridesmaid Award and got 2nd and Steve-O collected his 1st win in a month.

Game 3 continued the Vancetoberfest. After Kirk fell at 3rd we saw another Vance & Lena Head to Head for the 3rd week in a row! (I can’t even believe I’m typing that) Lena announced “Now I begin to keel you”. And she did! She won about 4 hands in a row. Just about when Vance started to worry she might actually come from behind, he realized that she was only going to begin to kill him. She never finished, and Vance’s win gave him a Birthday Trifecta, probably secured the month of October as his, and brought him within just 6 points of 1st place overall!

    Happy Birthday Buddy!

October is pretty much Vance’s. The good news for the rest of us is, Vance will probably miss the 1st Sat. in November! Vancetober, OK. NovemBriley, No Way! Only Karridy could really catch him, and even that would require 2 unanswered wins. (If anybody could do it, it’d be Karridy. He’s won 3 of his last 5 games!) Karridy’s percentage of games won to games played just became the highest of anybody’s! Only Big Kim’s percentage of 2nd’s and Lena’s percentage of 3rds are higher. I say we play 1 more Saturday this October, just to make it official, before Vance & Les miss the 1st week in November. Anyone wanna think about volunteering to host Nov. 1?
